Welcome to My Peers Family History

Family Abroad
Although there had been murmurings of family emigrating abroad many years ago, nothing seemed to be known. When dads sister Lucy died my brother Roy and his wife Brenda had the job of clearing the house and found a letter from family in Pittsburgh USA. Lucy must have been corresponding with them for many years. Out of courtesy Brenda wrote to them in 1981 informing them of Lucy's passing. She had no reply until 1990. (A copy of the letter is in the Williams Photo Albums section). The letter was not found until Roy and Brenda moved house in 1996/1997. As I had an interest in family history it was passed to me on a visit one Saturday night. On returning home about 11:00 pm I had a look at the International telephone directory and found a number for them. Out of curiosity I rang the number and after a few rings the phone was answered by Cecil Peers, brother William's youngest son and therefor my cousin. At that time he was about 77. We had a fantastic conversation and started to learn something of our heritage. William had 3 sons, Cecil, Alfred and John. Unfortunately Cecil passed away in 1997, but I was fortunate to be able to keep in touch with his wife Ruth and enjoyed many interesting conversations. Cecil had a Real Estate business and he and Ruth had 3 children, William, Dianne and Jim. Jim followed Cecil into the family business, William had a trucking company and Dianne went into nursing. Again I was fortunate to visit Pittsburgh and meet the family.

There is another family member in the USA. Arthur Peers's daughter, June, lives in Santa Maria, Los Angeles, California. June is married to Bill Barlett who passed away in 2015.

In 2018 I located a member of Alfred Edward Peers's family, John Peers, who went to Hobart Tasmania.

It is believed that a daughter of Alfred and Clara, Mabel Gertrude, went to Toronto in Canada but again no further information to date. It is possible that there were 2 sons, Frank and Stephen. Cecil's wife, Ruth, remembered visiting family in Toronto but could not remember any names. There is a picture of someone in a Canadian Air Force uniform who apparently visited here, but no name is available.
Hopefully information on this part of our family history will be found.
