ALFRED EDWARD and IDA PEERS 

ALFRED EDWARD:- Edward was the 4th (living) child of the marriage of Alfred Edward and Clara Peers. 

He was probably born at 77 Floodgate Street, Deritend, Birmingham before the family moved to 251 Yardley Road, South Yardley, Birmingham. The house is opposite the cemetery where his parents, Alfred and Clara, are buried in plot area (13A reg 15536}.

He married Ida Amelia Holis in ???? and in 1923 they moved to 46 Broadyates Road, South Yardley, Birmingham. He is registered in the 1911 census under Vol 6D Page 59. 

In the Army records he joined the Royal Medical Army Corps (21st South Midland Field Ambulance).

It appears he joined at the age of 17 in 1913. His service No. is 1832. He was later recorded in 1919 at the age of 23 as service No. 435078 in the RAMC.

Alfred was born in 1897 and died on 17th November 1954 ( aged 57) and Ida died on January 28th 1959 (aged 61). Alfred worked as a metal polisher/Brass founder at Wilmott Breedon works in Speedwell Rd, Yardley, Birmingham.

 

They had 7 children. These were:-

MARY ELIZABETH:- She was known as Betty. She was born in 1929. She had worked at Fisher and Ludlow. She was married to Alfred Fisher and had one son:-

      JOHN:- John was born in 1950 and is married to Pauline (?) and lives in, Solihull. They were

      married in ????. John worked at Landrover. John and Pauline have one daughter:- 

            CARRIE:- Carrie was born in ????? and married Roger Hickman in ????. They live in Lakeside,                     Solihull and have one son:-

                       MAX:- Max was born in ????   

ALFRED EDWARD (Jnr):- He was born in 1923 and died in 1954.   He was married to Edna. (He had lived at a house at the back of Franchise Rd, Perry Barr). He possibly moved to a house around Bunbury Rd,  Northfield.  He had worked at Brook Tools, Greet.  They had 3 children:-

      LORRAIN:- Lorrain was born on ????

      YVONE:- Yvone was born on  ????. She went to live in Australia.

      MARTIN:- Martin was born on ????. He went to live in Australia.

 

JOHN:- John had been in the Royal Marines and was on the ship, HMS Amethyst, during the difficult times when China blockaded the Yangtse river. At some point the ship shadowed a cargo ship and escaped. The episode is the feature of an old well known film, "The Yangtse Incident". At some time he ended up in a hospital in Malta where he met and then married Carleen. After leaving the forces they emigrated to Carleen's home country of Tasmania. They had 4 children. Contact has been made with the four children, Peter, Alfred, John and Paul who have provided more details and photographs of the family over there.
